August 2008 status:
CFCI and RSP have agreed that substantial progress towards the new logging practices will be demonstrated through a progress report, a planning demonstration of multi-scale level planning and a decision on an FSC certification pre-assessment in a portion of the Great Bear Rainforest. Work on the progress report and the planning demonstration is ongoing. CFCI companies opted for an FSC certiification pre-assesment of the midcoast in April 2008.
Support for a Human well being plan*
Support the development of a plan to secure the wellbeing of communities.
August 2008 status:
Ongoing work continues to develop a strategy for forest sector initiatives that can improve human well-being.
Support for an Adaptive Management Framework to inform EBM*
Support the completion and adoption of a formal adaptive management framework to inform successful implementation of Ecosystem Based Management.
August 2008 status:
Ongoing work and discussions at the EBM Working Groups and between stakeholders and government to develop an adaptive management framework.
Support of a decision-making framework to implement EBM*
Support the completion and adoption of a formal government decision-making framework based on conservation and socioeconomic values (‘social choices’) required to implement Ecosystem Based Management.

Ongoing work and discussions between stakeholders and government to develop a social choice decision framework.
* Milestones marked with an asterisk are agreed to by major logging companies and environmental organizations that work together in the Joint Solutions Project (JSP). The JSP was established by the Coastal Forest Conservation Initiative (CFCI), formed by Western Forest Products, Interfor, BC Timber Sales, Canfor and Catalyst Paper, and the Rainforest Solutions Project (RSP). Progress on these milestones will be assessed by an independent assessor.
