The Groups

ForestEthics, Greenpeace and Sierra Club BC make up the Rainforest Solutions Project.

ForestEthics was founded in 1994 as the Clayoquot Rainforest Coalition (CRC). In 1996, the CRC was instrumental in helping to protect much of Clayoquot Sound from logging. After this victory, the CRC expanded its mission to seek protection of the entire coastal rainforest of British Columbia. It was during this work that the group became ForestEthics.  Today, ForestEthics works to protect the world's endangered forests by transforming practices  in the paper and wood industries and by supporting forest communities in the development of conservation-based economies.

Greenpeace is an independently funded international organization that works to protect the world's environment. Founded in Vancouver in 1971, today Greenpeace has offices in 40 countries and 2.8 million members around the world. The group campaigns globally on climate change, fisheries and oceans, toxics, nuclear issues, genetic engineering and to protect the world's last large tracts of ancient forests, including the Great Bear Rainforest and the Canadian boreal and to transform forest practices.

Sierra Club BC operates as part of the Sierra Club of Canada, an independently operated affiliate of the Sierra Club of the United States. Founded in 1969, the environmental group works to protect critical wildlife habitat, wild salmon and other marine resources, stop clearcut logging, and save the remaining ancient temperate forests throughout British Columbia.

The Rainforest Solutions Project is a joint initiative of ForestEthics, Greenpeace Canada, and Sierra Club of BC. It promotes conservation options and economic alternatives to industrial logging on British Columbia's Central Coast, North Coast and Haida Gwaii.
